Mayors & Business Leaders

Forging a Path to Prosperity

Mayors cannot build thriving cities alone. The most successful urban centers are those where the public and private sectors collaborate to address complex challenges and capitalize on new opportunities. The American Conference of Mayors is dedicated to bridging this gap, creating a structured, symbiotic relationship between municipal leaders and top business executives from across the Americas.

This program is designed to facilitate a continuous dialogue, moving beyond one-off meetings to build long-term partnerships that drive sustainable economic development, innovation, and social equity in our cities.

A meticulously maintained city council chamber, featuring sleek walnut wood desks arranged in a semi-circular formation around a sculptural central podium of brushed aluminum and frosted glass. The space is framed by floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a modern urban skyline, with neutral-toned acoustic panels and integrated digital displays on the walls. Soft daylight filters in, balanced by overhead recessed LED lighting that highlights the clean architectural lines. The atmosphere is dignified, forward-thinking, and authoritative. Captured from an eye-level perspective with a perfectly balanced composition, the image emphasizes symmetry and formality while maintaining a corporate, photographic realism aligned with a professional institutional site.

The Americas Leaders Council

To formalize this critical relationship, we are establishing the Americas Business Council (AUBC). This special committee will be comprised of up to 15 leading business executives from a variety of sectors (e.g., technology, finance, real estate, energy) who are passionate about urban development.

The council will serve as an advisory body to the American Conference of Mayors, providing a crucial business perspective on our programs, missions, and conferences.

Roles and Responsibilities of the AUBC

  • Strategic Advising: Provide expert insight on economic trends, investment opportunities, and private sector best practices that can be applied to municipal governance.
  • Programmatic Support: Assist in developing content for our training events and conferences, ensuring they are relevant to a modern, thriving urban economy.
  • Networking and Outreach: Facilitate introductions and build a network of support for our participating mayors with key business leaders, investors, and potential partners.
  • Advocacy: Act as advocates for urban-friendly policies at national and international levels.

Annual Flagship Event: The Mayors-Business Summit

To kick off and sustain this initiative, we will host an annual, high-level event bringing together the AUBC and our network of mayors. This flagship activity will be a closed-door, high-impact summit designed for deep-dive discussions and strategic planning.

Event Title: The Urban-Business Summit: A New Era of Public-Private Partnership

Date: September 26th, 2027

Format: The summit will combine keynote speeches, moderated panel discussions, and interactive “action labs” where mayors and business leaders will work together in small groups to solve real-world urban problems.

Key topics

Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in Practice: Moving beyond theory, we will examine successful PPPs for infrastructure, technology, and public services.

Attracting and Retaining Talent: How municipalities and businesses can collaborate to build a skilled workforce and a vibrant, attractive city for young professionals.

Funding the Future City: A discussion on innovative financing models, including impact investing, green bonds, and leveraging private capital for public good.

Urban Technology and Smart Cities: How businesses can partner with cities to implement smart city solutions that improve quality of life and government efficiency.

The Proclamation of Cities and Municipalities Prosperity: A Joint Pledge

After each summit, the participating mayors and business leaders will sign a formal Proclamation of Urban Prosperity. This document is more than a symbol; it is a shared commitment to a set of principles for collaborative urban development. It will outline a joint vision for their cities and a pledge to work together on issues such as economic inclusion, environmental sustainability, and technological advancement.

This joint Proclamation will be a powerful tool for public relations and will demonstrate to citizens and the international community that a unified front of public and private leaders is dedicated to building a better future.
